LGBTQIA+

At Strides In Psychotherapy, several of our psychologists have specialized training and experience in working with LGBTQIA+ clients. We work with LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples and families seeking help with issues such as coming out, dealing with homophobia/transphobia and discrimination, relationship problems, suicidality, transitioning, parenting issues, religious or spiritual concerns, separation/divorce, illness, or grief.  Due to societal and religious factors, we know that members of our LGBTQIA+ community are at higher risk for such problems as suicidality, bullying, depression, substance abuse and HIV, and we incorporate this into our assessment and treatment. Many LGBTQIA+ clients come to us requesting help with issues that may not be directly related to their sexual orientation or gender identity. We treat LGBTQIA+ clients in the same ways that we assist heterosexual clients, while also considering any possible impact that being LGBTQIA+ might have on the situation. We embrace the vitality, creativity, adaptability, and resilience that our LGBTQIA+ clients often embody, and honor their chosen and adoptive families and communities, along with their original ones. We also work with children, parents, friends, and colleagues of people identified as LGBTQIA+ and who are struggling with that in one way or another, or who have lost someone in their lives who identified as LGBTQIA+.

Diversity

At Strides In Psychotherapy, we pride ourselves in serving the needs of clients from many different backgrounds, religions, races, ethnicities, socio-economic statuses, sexual orientations and gender identities. We have knowledge, training, and sometimes also personal experience with different cultures, races, ethnicities, and religious/spiritual practices, as well as extensive expertise and training in working with the LGBTQIA+ population. We treat people across the age span, and work with individuals, couples, and families.

Our Somerset office is located on the first floor and is wheelchair accessible, as well as convenient for people with other health issues for whom steps are a problem.

We are an equal opportunity employer, welcoming and encouraging applicants from all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities and physical abilities.
